Extracurricular
Solar Vehicle Suspension: CalSol
Designed front suspension upright and shock/arm mounts with improved ease of manufacturing/serviceability.
Utilized Solidworks and Ansys to perform FEA to optimize for bump, corner, and brake forces for various suspension parts. Performed component and assembly level FEA to fully validate designs and calculations.
Analyzed forces and stress on single shear versus double shear hole placements for rod-end and spherical bearing attachment points.
Assisted with design, manufacturing, and testing of suspension shock force versus displacement setup.
Solar Vehicle Battery Array Design: CalSol
Used Solidworks to create mechanical design of battery array with batteries split among 17 PCB modules with a structural enclosure of composite panels and polycarbonate.
Created Matlab script to run calculations for different geometries and battery count specifications to determine PCB dimensions.
Utilized Solidworks to design and Solidworks simulation to perform FEA to optimize various components. Decreased weight by 25% from previous design.
Collaborated with shell and structures subteams to integrate airflow ducts and array base mounting components.
Rocket Internal Stabilization Platform: CalSTAR
Designed 3-axes of 3D printed arms and enclosed base structure with Solidworks for Arduino Uno, sensors, and battery pack.Â
Utilized SG90 Micro Servo to power rotating arms with 360 degrees of motion on all axes based on torque specifications and other design constraints.
Wrote Arduino code to control servos based on gyroscope/accelerometer position feedback with breadboarded custom electronics.
FIRST Robotics Competition Robots: FRC Team #8 Paly Robotics
Designed and project managed three different 120 pounds robots in 6 weeks every year of high school.
Led prototyping using laser cutters, wood shop, and 3D printers using principles of rapid prototyping to quickly ideate and test designs.
Robots include west coast drivetrains with 8 wheels and center drop for ease of turning, custom designed and manufactured, and various mechanisms to achieve game tasks including rope climber, ball intake, and multi-stage elevator.
Extensive work using Solidworks and various machinery to design, prototype, test, manufacture, and assemble robots for competition.
